Now Slitherine lands Warhammer 40,000 deal

Games Workshop has struck yet another Warhammer licensing deal with a video games publisher.

This time it’s the turn of Slitherine which has penned an agreement to produce a strategy game set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe, development of which is already underway.

This deal represents yet another testament to our continuous aim to reach new audiences, without losing sight of who we are and what we do best", Slitherine chairman JD McNeil stated.

"It’s all about creating strategy games that are targeted to a particular audience and addressing a very specific need in the market. The Warhammer 40,000 setting is a perfect fit for the style of strategy games that we make and will be very popular with fantasy and science fiction fans alike. Joining forces with Games Workshop will allow us to bring an wonderfully deep and appropriate IP to the Turn Based Strategy genre”.

Sega announced late last year that it had agreed to a Warhammer licensing deal that would see owned studio Creative Assembly produce a strategy title based in that particular universe (note – this is a separate fiction to Warhammer 40,000).

Yesterday Zattika announced the capture of the Warhammer 40,000 Titan license, while Danish indie Full Control won the Space Hulk license last year. EA’s F2P MMO Warhammer Online: Wrath of Heroes, meanwhile, will close down at the end of the month.

The fate of the Warhammer 40,000 licenses (which included Dawn of War and Space Marine) formerly held by THQ have yet to be full explained.
