Up to 100 HMV stores preparing for closure

Administrator Deloitte is preparing to close anything up to 100 HMV stores, reports claim.

The Telegraph reports that between 60-100 stores face the chop, although they will likely remain open until they have exhausted their stock – possibly short-term good news for consumers, at least.

The final list of stores has not yet been revealed, although it is understood to have been finalised over the weekend. It is believed that HMV’s London Piccadilly Circus store will close, although its Oxford Street store could survive.

It is the belief of both Deloitte and potential owners Hilco that a future, thriving HMV should have a UK store count of between 120 and 160 shops.

MCV revealed last week that HMV had cut 190 jobs from its head office and distribution network.
