CJ Cowan leaves studio after 13 years, half of which was spent on Activision’s online shooter

Destiny’s story lead quits Bungie

Bungie has suffered a key departure as CJ Cowan moves on to pastures new.

Cowan was creative lead for the story of Destiny, Bungie’s hugely successful online shooter and biggest commitment to date. He spent 13 years at the company, having joined in 2003 as cinematic designer on Halo 2, GamesIndustry reports.

In addition to working on Destiny, Cowan directed the cinematics for Halo 3, ODST and Reach before being shifted to the team building the online multiplayer hit. He worked his way up to story lead in November 2015.

Cowan bid farewell to Bungie with an Instagram post, which you can see below. There’s no word on where he’s heading next, although his LinkedIn profile lists him as “storyteller for hire”.
