Suite of tools for authoring 3D and 360-degree sound rebranded as Facebook 360 Spatial Workstation

Facebook acquires VR audio firm Two Big Ears, releases Spatial Workstation for free

Oculus owner Facebook has purchased a firm specialising in audio design for virtual reality titles.

Two Big Ears is the creator of Spatial Workstation, a suite of tools for Mac angled towards creating audio for ‘360 video and cinematic VR’.

Among the software’s features are plugins for other audio workstations, a 360 video player synchronised with time and other publishing utilities.

Following the acquisition, Two Big Ears announced that its 3Dception for Games 3D audio and environment modelling engine would no longer be available as a standalone product.

In addition, Spatial Workstation has been rebranded as Facebook 360 Spatial Workstation and re-released for free.

Two Big Ears said that users who have already paid for a licence would “continue to receive support in accordance with your current agreement for the next 12 months”.
