Second annual development contest offers thousands of dollars in prizes

Massachusetts Game Challenge returns

The 38 Studios Massachusetts Game Challenge is set to return after a successful first year. This time around, the contest, which is only open to students, has extended its reach, allowing entries from colleges from the United States and Canada. Previously the competition was only available to entrants from New England.

Teams of one to three students are invited to submit a game that features Munch, the 38 Studios’ mascot, or his alter ego. A panel of 38 Studios judges will review submissions received by March 2nd, 2009, considering originality, graphics and artistry, technical achievement, degree of finished product, and fun factor.

Each member of the winning team will be given $1,500 each, while those in the second and third-placed teams will be awarded $1,000 and $500 each respectively.

More detailed rules and last year’s winning designs can be found at the 38 Studios website.
