David Carey, Ryan Elam and David Georgeson also thought to have left studio

PlanetSide 2 creative director resigns

The creative director behind sci-fi MMO PlanetSide 2 has resigned.

Taking to Reddit, Matthew Higby said after four years on the project it was time for a change, and that Friday would be his last day at the studio.

Sony Online Entertainment was recently sold off to Columbus Nova and renamed to the Daybreak Game Company. Higby said this provided the right opportunity for him to leave the company. There was no word on what his next move might be.

“PlanetSide 2 is in great hands, with terrific people who honestly care about the game and the players,” said Higby.

“I can’t stress this enough, the folks working on every aspect of the game, developers, marketing, community are talented, hard working people who care more than you can imagine – I’m fully confident they’re going to do an amazing job on the next leg of the journey.”

Following its sale, last week Daybreak confirmed layoffs at its San Diego and Austin studios. Employees reported to have left include PlanetSide 2 producer David Carey, technical director Ryan Elam and EverQuest director of development David Georgeson.
