U will get stock. Eventually.

Wii U stock will be in short supply on day one, Nintendo has admitted.

But the firm insists it will be making regular deliveries right up until Christmas in an effort to meet demand.

Independent retailers this week told MCV they were unable to obtain enough Wii U consoles to meet pre-order figures.

One unnamed indie even claimed he was being advised ‘to shop at Tesco or GAME’ for stock.

And Koch Media, which runs Nindie.com, said that it has a tough job in helping indies secure a fair share of ‘what is unfortunately not a large stock availability’.

Nintendo responded: Wii U stock levels will be tight on day one. However, we will be providing retailers with regular stock deliveries in the run-up to Christmas in order to meet demand as quickly as possible.”

The upside to a stock issue is that retailers should be able to maintain margins. The 3DS launch last year suffered severe price discounting, but one games boss at a major chain doesn’t think this will be repeated with Wii U because there isn’t the stock to make it worthwhile.”

Nintendo Wii U launches on Friday, November 30th.
