User numbers fall, but Zynga losses narrow

The mobile giant reported that its average active daily users have fallen 24 per cent year-on-year from 24m to 18m, and down from 19m in the previous quarter. Active monthly users are down from 98m to 68m, while average monthly unique players have dipped form 1m to 800k. Daily booking per average daily user are up 31 per cent to $0.11, however.

Zynga blamed the decline on a lack of new titles, a problem it hopes to in part address with the acquisition of Californian studio Zindagi Games. It previous output includes match-three smartphone puzzlers as well as motion-controlled console outing Sports Champions.

CEO Mark Pincus also promised a more active slate of new games in 2016, with ten games confirmed for release. Casino and slot titles feature big in the list, which also features further FarmVille and CityVille games along with strategy title Dawn of Titans and racer CSR2.
