Moore questions Guitar Hero strategy

Despite the vested interest his own company has in the music sector thanks to the Rock Band franchise, EA Sports boss Peter Moore has stated that the genre will face tough challenges ahead.

If you look at the ability of the industry to sustain the big box mentality — Guitar Hero, Rock Band — it’s going to be a challenge,” Moore told attendees at the Play Conference, according to Kotaku.

The first time somebody puts a skateboard through their television set – to what extent is the user willing to pay?” He went on to add that if consumers do stop buying expensive plastic peripherals, Activision boss Bobby Kotick will be sitting on half the world’s plastic”.

Moore also poured cold water on fears that the games industry could be set to move away from physical media at the same pace we’ve seen in the music industry.

The industry is at least a decade away from saying goodbye to a physical disc,” he predicted. The more important question is what does the next generation of console look like?”

Moore also believes that when the time comes, Microsoft will be the first platform holder to take that step.
