'Thousands' of games and apps to be available on the Amazon device

PopCap and Zynga lead Kindle Fire charge

PopCap, Zynga, Gameloft, EA and Rovio are leading the charge to publish games for Amazon’s new iPad competitor Kindle Fire, the online merchant has revealed.

As well as accessing “thousands” of games, users will also be able to use apps including Netflix, Twitter and Facebook when the Android compatible device launches next week.

"We started talking to app developers everywhere the day we introduced Kindle Fire, and the response has been overwhelming," Amazon Kindle VP Dave Lamp said.

"In addition to over 18 million movies, TV shows, songs, books, and magazines from Amazon, we are excited to offer customers thousands of apps and games to choose from on Kindle Fire.

“This is only the beginning – we’re adding more apps and games every day across all categories."

The Amazon Kindle will be launched in the US on November 15th for $199.

A European release date has yet to be confirmed.
