The global games and immersive technology industry is moving into a new phase of adjustment, as
professionals and studios respond to the lasting impact of recent market changes while adapting to
new technologies and evolving expectations.
The 12th annual Skillsearch Games & Immersive Salary and Satisfaction Report 2026 provides
a snapshot of this transition, drawing on insights from professionals across the sector. The findings
point to an industry that remains active, but where both studios and candidates are approaching
decisions with greater care.

The report highlights a high level of activity across the workforce, with many professionals exploring
new opportunities in 2026 and remaining open to roles both within and beyond the games industry.
At the same time, 44% of professionals report having considered leaving the industry as a
result of redundancies, underlining the continued impact of recent workforce changes.
The outlook for growth is mixed. Many studios anticipate modest increases in hiring, while a notable
proportion remains uncertain about the year ahead, reflecting a more cautious and considered
approach to expansion.
The growing role of AI is another key theme. While over half of respondents report using AI tools,
sentiment remains divided, with many expressing concerns around its impact on creativity and the
absence of clear policies to guide its use.
Taken together, the findings reflect a market that is continuing to move forward, while adjusting to
new dynamics across talent, technology, and growth.
“We’re starting to see the market rebalance,” said Eleanor Dean, Head of Operations at
Skillsearch. “Studios are hiring again, but more selectively, and candidates are being more
deliberate about where they go next. That shift is changing the dynamics of hiring, and
making alignment, clarity, and access to the right talent more important than ever.”
As studios and professionals navigate this evolving landscape, the report suggests that success will
increasingly depend on how effectively expectations are aligned, and how well organisations adapt to
a more competitive and fluid talent market.
