Social deduction has always been a party-room genre first and a software genre second. Werewolf and Mafia needed a table, a moderator and a group willing to lie to each other for an hour. The digital versions that stuck tend to keep that structure intact and add the one thing tabletop versions can't: anonymity, plus a reason to move around.
